Replacing your Main Circuit panel

The main reasons for replacing a circuit breaker panel, commonly known as a panel swap, is:

  • replacing an old panel that may be a fire hazard
  • running out of space for new breakers and circuits
  • upgrading a service coming into a house to provide additional power.

Steps involved in replacing most circuit panels

1) The power company disconnects the power to your house by pulling the meter

2) The circuits are disconnected from the current panel

3) A new panel is installed and all the circuits are inserted back into the panel.

4) The panel is inspected

5) The power company turns the power back on to the house.

This can be coordinated to happen in a day but is dependent on the power company.
